Year 8 G 1; To game or not to game .... that is the question!

At first glance, it may appear that violent video games make a kid violent but on a closer examination, we can see that violent video games should not be blamed for a way that a person decides to act or for the good or bad decisions they make in their lives. What I’m trying to say here is that if people are trying to blame violence on video games that’s not right. Movies are almost the same as video game violence if not even more violent. This is logical because by playing a violent video game that does not make you violent, movies are more violent than video games. Movies have worse killing scenes that are not for most kids and if people are trying to blame violent video games that still doesn’t make it right. Do you agree that video games cause kids to be more violent?  Why or why not?

  1. Moriarty is for sure a Slytherin as he is cunning and smart. John Watson would be a Hufflepuff for we get to see his loyalty to Holmes. Sherlock Holmes would obviously be a Ravenclaw. 'Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure'. And he does possess it!

  2. I agree with this because every time you play a violent video game, you change. You keep talking about and don't stop. At school your education grades will fall because you want to play it and don't bother pay attention. The graphics are so real that it seems you are there and holding the remote like a real gun. Also you get points when you kill a person on COD and then you might want to get real life points. You get so much into the game that you want to play it so much to you will do anything to try and shoot a real gun.It is very addicting and can ruin your everyday life.

  3. Well, Video games are frowned upon by many parents as time-wasters, and worse, some education experts think that these games corrupt the brain. Violent video games are easily blamed by the media and some experts as the reason why some young people become violent or commit extreme anti-social behavior. "Video games change your brain" Playing video games change the brain’s physical structure the same way as do learning to read, playing the piano, or navigating using a map. Much like exercise can build muscle, the powerful combination of concentration. I personally feel that video games are quite helpful to kids in their own way. For example, Video games, it gives his brain a real workout. In many video games, the skills required to win involve abstract and high level thinking. These skills are not even taught at school!! Video games also have quite a lot of positive points to it.
    • Hand-eye coordination, fine motor and spatial skills. In shooting games, the character may be running and shooting at the same time. This requires the real-world player to keep track of the position of the character, where he/she is heading, their speed, where the gun is aiming, if the gunfire is hitting the enemy, and so on.
    • Planning, resource management and logistics. The player learns to manage resources that are limited, and decide the best use of resources, the same way as in real life.
    • Quick thinking, making fast analysis and decisions. Sometimes the player does this almost every second of the game giving the brain a real workout.
I personally feel that video games are not always a distraction to kids if they really know when and why they are playing it. :D

  4. Well I don’t think that it is the video games or the movies that make the kids violent. The thing that is making them violent is the type or genre of the video game for example GTA is a violent game and kids pick up things very easily on the other had if they play a productive video game example DORA THE EXPLORER the result will not be disappointing. The same goes for movies if the movie is educational like MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE the child will actually learn something, then again there are movies like RISE OF AN EMPIRE which is quite violent and definitely not for kids. It also depends on the parents and other elders around the house to not watch inappropriate movies in front of kids.

  5. Video games cause a lot of violence due to the scores that they get, and if their video game is taken away. This is a bad situation for violence because it goes really high if maybe the child’s video game is been taken away. Here are some examples:

•A 17-year-old male killed his mother and wounded his father after they took Halo 3 away from him.

•A 15-year old ran away from home after his parents took his Xbox console away. His dead body was found almost a month after.

•Two kids murdered 13 and wounded 23 before turning the gun on themselves acting out their own version Doom.

I completely agree with this bad violence Due to the video games which causes a lot of problems and force children to kill their parents or run away.

  6. I definitely agree because unlike movies where young viewers simply watch the violence happening on-screen, the violence in these video games are virtually carried out by the people who play them and this can be bad for young gamers as they learn how to use weapons and the different ways to kill people from these games. As a devoted video gamer myself, I can say that these games can get very addictive and most kids like the thrill of causing havoc in these games when they can’t do the same in real life so I’m sure to most gamers, bloodshed and dead bodies wouldn’t be as horrific and surprising to them than to adults. All of the above is the reasons is the reason why I feel that while these games can be exhilarating, they can also lead to a lot of bad decisions. Some examples of great games that I absolutely love, but can be quite violent are: Call of Duty (Black Ops, Ghost), Assassin’s Creed, Halo, Batman Arkham City etc.

  7. In my opinion…I feel it’s depends on what type of a video game it is. For instance, black opps does make people violent and jut dance would be a non-violent game…it also depends on he person, if he/she could control themselves they may not turn violent. All video games are made for the entertainment of people…most people do tend to re-enact the games they have just played, sometimes it’s just a phase and they shall move on from it…most people tend to get attracted to the games they play and then play on for a long time not knowing, after a few days they start to enact the games and sometimes they do use the violent language that’s in the video game…sometimes people start to hallucinate due to the games and then do get scared but they go back to playing it…some games involve drugs and people rarely get into it because of video games...they could have a bad impact on people’s lives, especially young people…they stay up late t home playing games and then the next day they tend to fall asleep in class and miss a lot of work…people get so addicted to the video games that most of the gamers have no social lives…

  8. I partially think that videos games are violent, but this depends on the game, for example, the game, Dance Central, is not at all violent, it is based on following dance moves from the game, but on the other hand, games like, for example, Black Ops, it is a game where you shoot people, this game is surely fun, but it does contain violent scenes. Secondly, Video games are made for entertainment, but this concept can take change its course to a side not good, additional, these games easily get you addicted to it, this can have an influence on the child behavior, to be clear, a young child playing an aggressive game that is filled with killing, shooting, smashing and breaking, is treacherous because a child that age usually follow their actions by coping what is around them, but therefore, video games are not the only reason that can make a child violent, all media that is available is responsible for this cause. Finally, video games are a great stress reducer, it is a creative way to bond with your family and have fun with your friends, I personally think video games are enjoyable but everything has its cons.

  9. To Game or Not to Game….. That’s The Question….
Do you agree that video games cause kids to be more violent??
Hmm well let’s see video games are not good cause once you start playing it you will want to play more and you can’t stop. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t play. You should not play for many hours. If you get addicted to a video game and if there are some code names you will maybe start calling your friends or family members that name. Parents may start getting worried about you and they might take it away from you and I know that nobody likes that. Your grades will also be very bad if you keep on playing non-stop. Our behavior will start changing.
I know that some video games are very addicting. If you keep on playing 24/7 your eyesight will be very bad and you will have to wear glasses. And people hate wearing glasses and you can even get a high power number. There are particular games that have inappropriate things which may influence children and will completely change them. So basically what I’m trying to say watch and play but limit your time. And make sure you get good grades so your things don’t get confiscated.

  10. Video games are like another virtual life for kids these days. They get addicted to these games easily. In my opinion, I feel that kids should play games of their age ‘cause some kids prefer to choose violent games which are out of their age limit. Violent games bring kids an outer knowledge, but sometimes it goes too dangerous sometimes, when they start imitating the game. For instance, a teenager went on a rampage and killed three men, two of them police officers, after months of playing Grand Theft Auto. Their physical body changes as well like, obesity and metal disorder. So kids the remote is in your hands you are the controller……….

  11. Well video games have both good and bad points. Certainly it is good for children to play. Kids learn many things through play, especially friendly rough-and-tumble play which helps the brain develop in multiple ways including building social competence. I believe video games are great recreation for children. Video games can create visual and coordination skills that are necessary for a child to active. There are a lot of educational themed video games out today. However excessive game playing can make a child lazy and not want to do anything else. Lots of people have to get things like glasses because of video games and some people think that if its OK to hurt someone in a game they do it in the real world video games that are violent hurt kids. Sometimes the games encourage kids to be more violent.
I know it is hard for all parents to know this but NOT ALL GAMES ARE VIOLENT! There are Rating systems for a reason and really it is the parent's neglect whenever kids have violent video games.
Too many kids play video games for their whole lives and end up stupid. Later on when they get to high school , they won't do homework at all, and end up with F grades all across their report card.

  12. According to me video games have their advantages and disadvantages. Yes, video games can make a person very violent but it also causes a child to focus and playing the right games to enhance his thinking skills. I play video games with my friends all the time and I don’t get violent or start bullying people or anything. People may say that video games are violent but there are video games that are educational and can help people to think. They help children develop a positive attitude and learn new things. Banning video games is like banning awesome books. They're for entertainment. Parents should make sure they know what kind of games their children are playing and should be taking control of them. All in all children should be responsible and know what games are right and wrong for them. If the parents of a particular child are okay with the game the child is playing then it is totally up to them. It is not right to call video games violent or dangerous as the child needs to do the right thing and make sure he keeps up his positive attitude.

  13. I do feel that video games can make a person violent, but you can’t really put all the blame on the video game. First of all, video games are made for entertainment. They are addictive; therefore, even after the person has finished playing the game, they still have the urge to continue it. They do this by re-enacting the video game in reality. A person can choose as to whether they want to re-enact the game or not – this is technically not the fault of the game.

Although, the violence of a video game can affect a person’s mind. It can make them corrupted – some people go on days without eating just to continue with the game. People start having bad thoughts which can then lead to bad actions. Last but not least, video games contain bad language which provokes the child to start using bad language as well.

All in all video games aren’t to be blamed completely for the actions of a person but companies should reduce the amount of violence they put in them.

  14. Video games have its advantages and disadvantages as well. Usually when children play video games, people assume that it makes them more violent but it actually enhances the child’s concentration and attention to detail. Some video games are extremely violent which in turn causes the child to develop a violent attitude towards things. Children should also have a limited time to play video games and they should engage themselves in other activities which help to take their mind off of video games. Some video games are educational which improves the child’s thinking skills. So all in all, it is not right to call all video games extremely violent because usually it is how the child interprets what he sees that gives him either a negative or a positive attitude.

  15. I strongly agree that video games make children more violent. Even though these games have restrictions for kids and teens under 18 there are plenty of children who play the games underage. These games may not make kids run out on the streets killing people but as they could take this violence to school and bully their peers. They could end up lashing out at other people and have anger issues. Moreover these video games could rot kids’ minds and give then a bad impression on how the world is. Parent must strictly to prohibit games like this from their children for their own good

  16. These days video games are very popular/common for children and also adults. There is a lot of violence games out there, and so on the player uses the moves or tips for how to kill someone from the video game and brings it to real life. There have been a lot of incidents about shooting and killing and then what do they say why they killed someone? A lot of the answers will because they saw it in a video game. But it’s not only about violence; it is also about what it does to your body, if you play you play to long and never stop until you sleep, it effects your eyes. Your eyesight will get weaker and your body will always feel very tired. Also it loses your interest of doing other things, going outside, spending time with your family, doing school stuff and also loses interest of learning new things.
Parents might think it’s good because they think there playing education games but how popular are educational games, if you think about people are not interested in education games they are more interested about what their friends are talking about or what their friends are playing. If you buy devices like: Wii, X-
BOX, PSP, DSI, DS, and many more, you’ll have to buy more game cards/CD for these devices which will be very costly. Coming back to violence games, people also get confused in reality and fantasy.

  17. I personally feel that there is no harm in playing a video game. Sure, there are video games that can be very violent, but it’s not only video games that can influence children to act violent, it can be other things like movies and books-they can have a lot more violence than video games, in some cases. Video games don’t really influence children as most children play it to just have some fun. On the other hand in movies when people’s favorite actors-their role models, act violent, children are more likely to be influenced as they want to be like the actor. To conclude, although people think that video games are the reason children are violent these days, it’s not necessarily that. Children can also have improved concentration and it helps them pay attention to detail.

  18. Although video games can be awfully addicting, I doubt that they are the reason for children’s violent behavior. It is up to the child to whether he/she wants to have a video game character as their role model. There are lots of video games available in stores, some being educational and inspirational. Despite that, some children go ahead and buy games that tend to lean to the more violent side. For example, the game Grand Theft Auto drove an 8 year old boy to murder his own grandmother! In my opinion, video games can be extremely influential, so it is our choice to have either good or bad influence.

  19. Do you agree that video games cause kids to be more violent? Why or why not?
I agree that video games sometimes could cause kids to be more violent. agree to this because these types of games are more like games that shoot people when they is some robbery and lots of young kids like playing these games. This makes kids think that killing people is okay. Yes, playing these types of games is okay sometimes but playing it all the time would make kids think like it is okay. The game ‘Grand Theft Auto’ is more like a killing game and like a detective game. Well this my agreement of the topic.

  20. I don’t agree that video games cause kids to be more violent.
Firstly , playing games is a hobby and you should not allow it affect or influence your life in anyway.Just because you get the liberty to play these games it doesn’t mean you misuse the luxuries provided by your parents. You should always remember to use them in the right manner and shouldn’t get so addicted to it .Obviously the games shouldn’t be blamed for a person’s behavior. That is left for the person to decide whether they want to grasp the behaviours.By playing these games children can often engage in fights with their peers just to (maybe) use the moves the fighter in the game back home did.
As you are addicted to these games you wouldn’t want to go out and play in the fresh air which would be more harmful to you. These virtual games can also cause health problems. Sitting on the couch all day long and playing these video games can make you fat. Yes, FAT as while you are playing you would obviously want junk to eat and sitting on the couch without any activity will result in obesity.
There could be explicit language used in the games which the children will eventually pick up .
These games have a direct affect on your grades, you lose interest in studying and just think of playing the game when you get home. Most games promote killing which the kids think is right.

In conclusion I think these games are not to be blamed for a persons behavior and movies are more violent than video games.

  21. I think gaming should not blamed for how a person acts, there are far more violent things on the media commonly these days. The news is a good example for this, They say kids should watch the news to be aware of the common events but nobody usually points out how violent the news can sometimes be and how it would more of an impact on a chid as it is a real life event. Gaming can be addicting or might affect a child’s attention spam towards anything else but it’s also proven to help improve fast reflexes. This also depends on how old your child is and what video game him/her is playing, if this is controlled in the right way there shouldn’t be a problem. Therefore I don’t agree with the phrase ‘Gaming cause kids to be more violent’

  22. I think gaming is extravagant. I personally think that gaming does not make a person violent nor does it affect how a certain child/adult thinks. It is proven that video games help people make quick decisions and improves ones reflexes. Video games are addictive but in my opinion there’s nothing wrong as long as you can control it. I think that many people get the impression that cause certain games have a huge amount of violence, it can affect them, but they are missing out the fact that social media, news and media in general have a heap of violence too.

  25. I do agree with the fact that video games are violent, but some adults/teens/kids should have some control over how long they are playing for. An hour would be okay but nothing more than that. Violent video games have been blamed for bullying, For example : A teenager went on a rampage and killed three men, two of them police officers, after months of playing Grand Theft Auto.

All in all video games aren’t to be blamed completely, people should have control and stick to non violent games.

  26. Well, I agree that videogames make a kid violent because the generation nowadays is very foul and so will be the games being made to use and causing kids becoming violent depends on the game they are playing like here is a game called “Grand Theft Auto”, in this game the player’s duty is to complete missions given by a boss the player is working for, and the missions are sometimes inappropriate like, the player has to kill people ,steal money or luxurious or even the most expensive thing in the game , bombing up buildings etc. These things definitely tell us that they can harm a kid’s life, when they grow up playing the same game their whole life. And then there a day comes, when they might follow or copy the things in their real life and cause themselves and even other people in danger. Therefore , it later becomes a hard job for their parents to control them ,because of their abysmal behaviour and all these things brings the kid’s career also very badly destroyed just because of a small game he played in his childhood .However I also disagree , because since as I said that it also depends on the game they are playing , there is a fact that some video games are very useful too , like for ex. “Angry Birds” , one of the most popular games being played around the world, but there is no harm in It .In the game all the player is to do is that shoot the bad birds with angry birds coming in their way , and the player should have their control on the direction they are shooting the bird ,if they don’t they have to redo it and if they do, they succeed, but later on there are hard parts to come next . Another very important thing, is that it also helps people to think good, they also do get intelligent, it gets people into higher thinking and I have often heard that they also help people make decisions faster , it is also another way to time pass or can also be called as to spent their leisure time .
In the end, I would say that yes, they do keep kids violent but no all games, I can say, very few of them do.

  27. Video games don’t necessarily make children violent. Most children play video games to amuse themselves. They don’t really pay attention to the violence in the games but rather focus on improving their skills. Like most movies, video games also come with a minimum age limit. As long as proper systems are implemented to ensure that children under the age limit do not gain access to games not meant for them, there will be no issues of children becoming violent due to the violence in video games.

  28. Video games, though sometimes user friendly, do have a major factor in the way that the youth of our generation behave these days. The result are shown in their reaction to some situations with which they are'nt happy with too. Kids are too overexposed to voilence and gore these days. There is too much of it in movies and video games. Sure, not all video games are like this, but the ones that are can be a 3nuisance,to parents as well. However, from a teenager's point of view, video games can be considered as a way to pass time. Days can drag on and on for a long time nowadays, and these games can be stress reliever from all the homework one gets. All in all, video games are both good and evil, both in their own way.
