According to me, when it comes to children’s and young adult literature I think it’s important they have a solid grasp on what constitutes good writing and storytelling before being exposed to pop-fiction and the so called teen literature book series.
Pop-fiction is fun, yes, but you don’t have dessert before dinner. It ruins the appetite.
Express your views on the above statement in not more than 75 words…….Do you think it is worth reading these books?
Although pop fiction catches reader’s interest by implementing their favorite fictional beings, most do not express true literature, and literature is one of the things the world needs the most right now.
ReplyDeleteWith all the negative happenings occurring, I firmly believe that pure literature is one of the only things that can help change our generation for the better.
If you read to enjoy and not to enable the ability to view life from different aspects, pop fiction is what you are looking for. If not, crisp literature is all you need.

I believe that even though young adult or pop fiction is not rich in vocabulary or writing skill, it is important to understand that these books deal with problems or conflicts which teens can relate to, which is why they are so drawn to them. Teenagers should be advised to read famous classics or books that will help their literacy skills, and then they can have time for pop fiction or ‘trashy’ books.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to understand the classics first and then read the pop fiction. Pop fiction is a book made from a fan, basely on their favorite character, making a plotline that would seem unreal. They have easy words to read, capturing the reader‘s attention. If we read the pop fiction first, we would refuse to read books with big, complicated words that would help us in future life. I believe the statement is true.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think we teen can read pop-fiction because when you read classics at this age you might think that to read classic books would be awkward . secondly when u read pop-fiction is like it can catch the reader and nowdays teens like us are more into fiction stuff . And nowdays books like Harry Potter ,Hunger Games , Percy Jackson and so on are very interesting books and can catch the readers attention .So to conclude I think pop-fictions are better than classic books. ReplyDeletecatch the reader's attention.. u mean to say.. yaa :P
Deletegotta correct u.. sryy :P <3
I think this Statement is very biased. Yes I do think these books are worth reading. Pop fiction is the trend nowadays. Yes you don’t have dessert before dinner. But in the end the dessert is liked the most. Teen literature books are books that are related to us, TEENS .Pop culture helps us mature in a slow way so we can enjoy life. Whereas, classics are related to mature adult fiction.

Although books on pop fiction are quite interesting, they can be a bad influence on young teens. Not only does it push teenagers to believe unrealistic things, but it is also not appropriate, most of the time.
ReplyDeleteI truly believe that classical books rule over all.

I personally feel that it’s good to read different genres in different time periods. The trashy teen-lit stories are just a step to growing up. You shouldn't feel too committed to it as that can distress your academic results. Therefore I think with the right mixture of both pop-fiction and classic there might be a good side to both. All in all, I disagree with the statement as I feel that pop-fiction is pleasure that every teen needs in her personal life.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the pop fiction and vampire dairies are definitely fun and interesting. When it comes to vampire dairies, these kinds of books compel you to imagine that horrifying scene which will help you in imagining more and also makes you get interest in vampire dairies. Well, pop fiction are thrilling and causes a lot of suspense to the reader and has a lot action involved in it. These vampire dairies and pop- fiction if continued to read, it is sure to grad the reader’s attention and make the reader adamant to read the book again and again. These kinds of books like vampire dairies are for sure a restriction for a person with weak heart but, as for me I am completely satisfied and amazed with these books. Well, there is nothing much more which can ever thrill me or make me horrified and compel me to imagine those scariest moments in the book. So, I am completely fond of these books and I can say that these books to grab reader’s attention because they did mine. So, I would suggest people to go on reading these books and I can surely say that you would start loving them.

DeleteI believe teen literature isn’t as toxic as many people declare it to be. Pop fiction is stress relief; it is a guilty pleasure. They do build vocabulary to a certain extent and many of them have a decent plot as well. We cannot judge those kinds of books just because they don’t suit US. Everyone has different tastes; pop fiction suits only certain people. As teenagers usually start with pop fiction, these books may encourage adolescents to read more.
ReplyDeleteI believe that everyone has different opinions and tastes about things. Therefore, according to me, it isn’t a problem to read pop fiction or trashy teen-literature, because after all, we should all have a wide range of books that we read, and every book has a different genre, and these books do build up our vocabulary to a certain extent. Additionally, teenagers usually prefer reading pop-fiction books, due to the fact that they can view life from a different angle. Also, trashy teen-literature isn’t really as bad as some books make it look- they can be a lot more modest and good for the brain.
ReplyDeleteIn conclusion, pop fiction or trashy-teen literature, is good to read to a certain extent, although, it is important to read books of crisp literature too.

Pop-fiction is more fun and more understandable than classic literature. Most Pop-fiction also have tv series which teenagers enjoy rather than the old classics. Pop- fiction have got languages that are easy and understandable the y don’t have complicated words which might takes ages to pronounce and understand. Pop-fictions are small enough and can be read in 5-6 hours but classics have got more than 300 pages and might take months or maybe a year to read. So I truly support Pop-fiction.

I disagree with that statement because Pop fictions are way better and understandable than the typical classics.Pop fictions give us of an imagination than those Classics and dessert before dinner just means sweet before sour (I think).Teens understand Pop fiction more because MOST OF THEM (not all) relate to their lives unlike the classics who display the image of the 19th century. Pop fictions are more informal and better in soo many ways because to be honest I'd rather sit at home casually watching the Vampire diaries rather than get a ''Classics'' book in my hand and read Shakespeare's normal words..Thus my whole argument leads to the fact that Pop fictions are better than Classics..Mhmm
ReplyDeletei don't agree with the term that children shoulnot be exposed to teen lit or pop fiction because when teens or young adults read such books there mind broadens to think, express, feel and be able to understand the situation which overall helps a person or a teen or an young adult to improve their lang and lit skills so i believe that pop fiction should be suggested to teens. although classic books give you true lit i believe reading it is a waste of time because most of all classic books are boring and hard to understand which keeps the reader off their interest which leads to not helping them in any way to improve any of the lang or lit skills.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion reading pop-fiction is fun and interesting to read. However they don’t reflect the problems and differences in individuals of each society. Therefore, I strongly believe that classics are the best choice for the coming future.
ReplyDeletePop- fiction is creative, imaginative. But do they have the values, people’s point of view in them? No, they don’t. Though they have a way of catching the readers’ attention, they don’t have the power that can change the way the reader reads, and thinks upside down. Moreover, they also reflect the global problems we go through now. Once you start reading classics you may not be able to stop reading them. Classics like ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘Oliver Twist’, can never be forgotten for the years to come, while books like ‘Narnia’ are already forgotten.

I absolutely agree with the above statement. I believe that children and teenagers shouldn’t read pop fiction mainly because it seems fake and the plotline is very confusing. Another reason is, it limits our vocabulary because of the poor vocabulary many teenagers use. More importantly, they give us false hopes and the wrong ideas; furthermore, they do not convey any messages or morals. Personally, I feel that pop fictions are a waste of time when we could be reading a nice book with good vocabulary.
ReplyDeletePop fiction is something that should have never been written. All pop stories have a similar storyline. They lack creativity and the English used can be compared to a story written by a 7 year old.
Romantic stories are full of lies; most stories give a false hope to readers. Classics such as, ‘To kill a Mockingbird’’ is an amazing example as it contains good literature and a respectable storyline.
When I read classic book, my English improves. However, when I read a pop-fiction book, one can say my mind becomes one of a 5 year old.
